Name: Steve Ormand Born: San Antonio, TX Hometown: Rochester, MN Hockey Experience: In high school (John Marshall) I played some pick-up hockey and boot hockey and then at the Rochester State Junior College I played intramural hockey. A few years later I was playing pick-up hockey at Soldier's Field with Mike Greve and a bunch of guys from the Arnolds' Supply softball team we played with in the summer, and a few other friends. In the late 80's and 90's I played hockey in a Rochester City league (a couple of years with Don Hodkinson and Mike Lawler on the Gold Cross team). In the early 2000's I played over in Kasson with some friends form work. Like Mark Janes, I got tired of chasing the younger kids around and was glad when I started playing with the MJDHL. How did you get your start with MJDHL: I was watching the sports on KTTC one evening in mid-March of 2006 and they were interviewing Mark about his old-timer group. I gave him a call the next evening to see if I could play with his team and he said yes. Started playing with MJDHL: Late March 2006 to present. Jersey number and why you chose it: #27. My favorite number is 7 (which I wore on my softball jerseys for several years) but I knew that Mark had that number on one of his jerseys so I chose 27 to match my birthday. Playing status: Active. Family: My wife Lori and I have a son Chris who lives in Portland, Oregon, and a daughter Lisa, son-in-law Anthony, grandson Anthony, Jr. (AJ), and grandson Gabe who live in Vero Beach, Florida. Occupation: Work at Mayo Medical Labs in the Transportation Department. Other Hobbies/Activities/Sports you enjoy: Travelling, especially to see our kids and grand-kids. Played softball for about 45 years (probably over 10 years with Mike Greve on the Arnold's Supply team). My newest hobby is working on this website. I went to 3 Community Ed classes at Northrup in February and March of 2012, then worked on it, off and on for over a year, and launched it on May 15th of 2013. |
