Mark's bio was written by Mark's youngest brother Peter (November 25, 2013).

Name: Mark Janes

Born: Rochester, MN

Hometown: Rochester, MN

Hockey Experience: Mark Janes began his ice hockey on the Mayowood Lake with his father, Dr. Joseph M. Janes a co-founder of the Rochester Juvenile Hockey Association and his coach. They used logs for the goal posts and the Ladies' Home Journal for shin pads. Mark played for the Rochester Rovers, Fire Fighters, and the Southwest Police teams under the direction of Dr. David Hoffman. In High School, at Rochester John Marshall, he played under Coach Gene Sack and during his Senior he was a co-captain of the team. Mark would go on to play Division II college hockey at Colby College in Waterville, Maine (with Peter Hoffman from Rochester). In 1969 he was voted the MVP, Captain, and selected for the ECAC All East Team.

The "Dangler" then played semi-pro in Soderhamn, Sweden, for one year only to return to coach Rochester Youth hockey, the Rochester Community College team, the Rochester Lourdes High School team, and to oversee the resurrection of the Rochester Mustangs (a name that his father had changed from the Rochester "Queens" after WWII). Mark was the General Manager of the Mustangs during their three years of dominance as the USHL Junior Champions.

In January of 2006, Mark started the Old-timer Developmental Hockey League (OTDHL) for the over 50 skaters--still hoping to be called up by the Wild next week. He was patient and careful to educate them that this would be the last team that they would be playing for, probably. His colleagues renamed the organization the Mark Janes Developmental Hockey League (MJDHL) in his honour.

My brother Mark told me not to be obnoxious writing his bio so I've kept to the facts. Our father may have helped start hockey in Rochester, Minnesota, but my brother Mark helped it flourish at so many levels--more than most will ever realize. I remain humbled by his strength, optimism, courage, and humility.

Jersey number and why you chose it: #7. College number.

Family: Mark is married to his wife Mary, has a son Joe, and a daughter Erin. Joe, a great hockey player, is now the U.S. Sales Manager for Easton hockey, lives in Denver, Colorado, and works a lot in Los Angeles, California. Joe was the "stick boy" for the USHL Champion Mustangs in 1986-87 when Mark was the GM under Frank Seratore (Air Force Coach). Erin is married to Brandon Tancredi and have a daughter Natalia who was born on September 25, 2013. They reside in Denver, Colorado.

Other Hobbies/Activities/Sports: Mark coached Erin's softball team for years, and was her main fan when she played tennis at Gustavus College. Mark loves to golf, was a triple letterman at John Marshall High School in football, hockey, and track, loves their Wisconsin cabin and fishing, and cooking shows.
