Name: Don Hodkinson Born: Rochester, MN Hometown: Rochester, MN Hockey Experience: Started playing hockey in NW Rochester in 1953, playing on league teams such as the Northwest Flyers and Northwest Oddfellows Lodge as a peewee and then bantams. I didn't really play organized hockey until 1973 when I played two years in the Southern Minnesota Senior "B" League with the Austin Merchants. The league cities encompassed most of the bigger towns of Southern Minnesota such as Winona, Mankato, Owatonna, Albert Lea, Lakeville, and Farmington. It was pretty much a hatchet league, full checking and "Let em go" referees. I kind of enjoyed it. When I returned to Rochester in 1975 I began to play in the Rochester Men's League with Gold Cross Ambulance comprised of numerous law enforcement personnel. How did you get your start with MJDHL: Mark Janes gave me the OK to join. Started playing with MJDHL: I started during the third skate on February 2, 2006, and have participated from that date to the present. Jersey number and why you chose it: #5 White Jersey - My Birthday; #93 Red Jersey - My Rochester Police Department Badge Number. Playing status: Still actively shooting the puck over the net. Family: My wife Becky and I have two daughters and seven grandchildren. Occupation: In another life I was a lieutenant on the Rochester Police Department retiring in 2001 after 26 years in law enforcement. My wife and I now own and operate River North Stables, L.L.C., since 1993 where we board and own usually 35-50 horses. It has been said that a person can make a million dollars in the horse business, but you have to start with two million. Other Hobbies/Activities/Sports you enjoy: Spending time with the grandkids on our horse farm. Trapshooting in the Southeastern Minnesota League, auctions, antiques, guns. Love the smell of gunpowder, and leather. |
